Given the complexity of the subject matter, this text is written in clear and concise language that attempts to cut through the policy thicket and provide a balanced understanding of these complex matters.

This is an important text that should serve as a wake-up call for this important issue. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Graduate students through professionals”. ― Choice Reviews

“The Washington defense and intelligence establishment is fighting a different war: the war on terror. But the war on commercial espionage is at best a skirmish, at least in terms of our response. This is why the new book Securing U.S. Innovation: The Challenge of Preserving a Competitive Advantage in the Creation of Knowledge is so important.

Written by Darren Tromblay and Robert Spelbrink, a career FBI intelligence analyst and agent, respectively, the book is a must read for anyone concerned about America’s economic future…. This book, a wake-up call to U.S. companies, universities, think tanks, and others who for too long have turned a blind eye to the challenge of foreign innovation acquisition, should be required reading for the next U.S. president.” ― Information Technology & Innovation Foundation

Political Influence Operations

“Tromblay boldly shows how the very structure of the U.S. government, American political culture, and modern political processes and actors converge to provide foreign entities with opportunities to influence U.S. politics. This is a disturbing but needed book.” — Nicholas Dujmovic, Assistant Professor of Politics, The Catholic University of America

Spying: Assessing US Domestic Intelligence Since 9/11

“A welcome addition to the … literature on domestic and homeland intelligence in the United States. It will interest more than just intelligence specialists, because Tromblay addresses broader homeland security issues, focusing on the FBI and DHS, and the book would serve as a useful introduction to those agencies.”

—Erik Dahl, Homeland Security Affairs

“Offers a bold analysis of post-September 11 domestic intelligence reforms—primarily but not exclusively focusing on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Homeland Security…. A valuable contribution.”

—Douglas M. Charles, Political Science Quarterly

A home run. Tromblay brings a keen eye, as well as a felicitous writing style, to this important study of how the FBI and the DHS seek—sometimes with success, sometimes with failure—to make the United States a safer place in a hostile world.”

—Loch Johnson,
University of Georgia
